Getting out in Phuket Town

We decided to venture into Phuket town today and explore the weekend markets. The guide book said the markets opened at 9am. We aimed to leave at 12. The concierge said that the market didn't open until 4. We left at 12 anyway and figured we would wander around. It was about an hour from the hotel. Once we were dropped off in the middle of town we just kinda set off in various directions. We explored a few shrines and found the market the guide book said was open from 9-6. It was closed. We continued to wander and on every corner a very helpful person would ask us if we wanted to go to the markets and shopping district. We should have taken this as a sign we were in the wrong spot. We started walking towards where they showed us but eventually the heat won out. We decided the next taxi person to ask we were going with. It ended up being a really nice lady and we rode in a "Tuk Tuk". She suggested that the market we were walking to wasn't good. She suggested we go to monkey hill then she would take us to a good market Naka Night Market. Ok we agreed. It worked out to be 10 bucks and she took us up the crazy hill to the most amazing overview. She bought peanuts and we hung out with some wild monkeys for a bit. We then asked to stop at the golden Buddha on the way down the mountain. After a brief visit with a few monks and Buddha we headed to the market she suggested. It was fabulous. We found some great treasures and had amazing street food. Little Lady embraced the hot dog on a stick with a passion, eating 3 of them. We found shaved ice, dumplings, satays, fried sweet potato puffs, fish cakes, and of course chocolate ice cream. Then the same lady arranged a taxi for us back to the hotel. She was so helpful! We came back, showered, and then had a great dinner. Now we are getting ready for bed and preparing for our elephant trek tomorrow. Another glorious day in paradise.
