Barcelona- Day 2 June 2nd

Day 2- Barcelona
We made absolutely no plans today. We decided to sleep in late ( as late as LL would let us) and then just wander the city. We decided to book a hotel in the gracia neighborhood but I really wish we would have chosen Exiample instead. We ended up there most of the time anyways and there were more options for food  and things to do. Once we woke up and left the hotel we headed to Catalunya.
Guess who is ready for the Metro?
A busy metro stop. Little did we realize at the time we were on the famous Las Ramblas street. We walked along the market and enjoyed the fresh flowers and souvenir shops.
This is my Mom pose. lol
There was one guy selling rabbits, guinea pigs, fish and things. LL loved the bunnies. She just kept watching them and yelling "Bunny" We said good bye to the bunnies and continued our walk. We ate lunch at a shop la baguettea, which turned out to be a chain store but was really yummy either way.

Little Lady enjoying her Daddy's Pepperoni sandwich
sidewalk cafes
This shot is for my brother. He needs to move here. They really know how to respect the motorcycle rider
We walked in the Plaza Real where there was a coin market going on.

Las Tres Gracias Fountain
After walking through the Plaza we found a small church and went to explore it.

We found the palace of Barcelona which is now a museum.

LL loved climbing the stairs of the Palace.

Once we made LL stop climbing stairs we went into a courtyard where we found this awesome fountain. That is an egg spinning in the water.

Just a cool roof top and the flags flying.
We decided to walk to the water front and on the way we found the Santa Maria Del Mar Cathedral and the cat lady.
cat lady. She dresses her cats up and collects money. The sign says it is to help care for the cats.
The cathedral peaking out from around some buildings

It was Sunday and some children were getting their first communion.

We took turns touring the inside of the cathedral. There were a lot of steps to navigate with the stroller. So we just decided against taking LL inside. Out in the plaza there was a choir performing.

We continued on to the waterfront passing this statue

and eventually making it. We enjoyed seeing the Mediterranean.

cable car over the Marina.

A cool mosaic statue. Mosaics are everywhere here.
View of the castle from the harbor.

We shopped at some sidewalk stands along the harbor and then we eventaully walked to a huge park and into the ZOO.

a narrow street we passed on our walk
We love Zoos and this one was great. Some exhibits were clearly designed for the comfort of the animal and it was impossible for us to see into the exhibit. The exhibits would be raised to chest level or would have glass walls but the bottom 4 feet were blocked off. One thing I really liked was that you could buy fresh fruit. So we bought multiple bananas for little lady as her snack and she was happy.

Love the tongue out.

remember it is important not to put your kid over the rail into the bear pit.
looking for someone who didn't read the sign. lol

Face to face with a dragon!
There is just something about the marks in the dirt that make this picture for me.
This Chimp was catching food that people were throwing to it.
A little play time for the Orangutangs
I just love this picture. S does an amazing job as our vacation photographer.
Just look at those eyes
reminds me of our kitty at home. Always resting her chin on something.
LL loved seeing all of the animals. She really loves them and was trying to share her cheerios with many of them.
We left the zoo and discovered a kids concert going on in the park. All the kids and parents were into it and singing along. We have no idea what was going on but a guy was dressed as a plane, then a boat, and then a car. LL loved the music and danced even though she had no idea what they were saying either. After the music was over we left the park in hopes of getting back to the hotel and getting some dinner. We returned to discover that since we were not in the tourist district there were no restaurants open on a Sunday. We were disappointed and hungry. We had to settle for room service because even the restaurant in the hotel was closed. Room service was from a restaurant down the street and it was actually very yummy and not badly priced. Little Lady slept again the entire night in her own bed!
